Hi, my name is Carla and I am a seamstress. I moved to a new state and small town a little over a year ago. Put my business cards up on all the bulliten boards in town and waited. I also joined the Chamber of Commerce.
This week I got my first “cold call” from an internet search!! Yay word is getting out. I am otherwise retired and this is more of a hobby but glad to help my community.

Congratulations, Carla! That first “cold” sale from being found online is a big milestone. In my town, I found my local seamstress through the women’s clothing store when I bought pants that needed hemmed. You might check in with anyone who sells clothes locally, even thrift stores. They may send more customers your way.

I would like to brag on Lou Ann who runs a shop on Etsy. Her shop is called Memory Made Mercantile; she sells vintage sewing patterns. This is a small home based business ran from a rural home (in middle of nowhere.) As of today she has over 3,300 sales with 100% customer satisfaction.

Her vintage patterns come from thrift stores, auctions and/or friends find them for her. She carefully checks each separate paper pattern piece, takes pictures, researches the pattern, and post the listing in very professional way. The patterns are mailed the next day after purchased..many times the same day. Her client base is about 50% overseas. Which is great because whatever the season, someone needs a pattern for the right clothes.

Lou Ann works hard to make her Etsy shop a happy place for her customers. She started about 5 years ago not quite sure of using computer, internet, etc. She is truly an inspiration and business success.

Thanks, Linda, for telling us about Lou Ann. Sounds like she does an exceptional job of serving a real need and treating people well. Cheers!

Sharon Kurland sent this one by email:
JAMAICA Vermont will present The Best Little Crafts Show in Vermont on Saturday May 6 2017 at our historic Town Hall. We have 35+ very talented local artisans selling their wares just in time for Mothers Day giving. Organized by a few volunteers who believe the Arts can revitalize our town.

Sounds like a terrific event, and I agree: the arts can be a big part of revitalizing our towns!

Howdy!
