Welcome to Small Biz Survival

As we’ve hit the middle of the year, this seems like a good time to welcome subscribers new and old. This is the only place I know of focused on helping you succeed in business in a small town. My name is Becky McCray, and I am a rural small business owner myself.

If you want to refer a friend to get these rural business how-to articles by email, send them to sign up here.

The weekly newsletter – a whole separate deal

I also write a separate weekly newsletter, called A Positive View of Rural. You get practical steps you can put into action right away to shape the future of your town. Recent newsletters have talked about:

  • “Where are all these newcomers? I don’t see them volunteering with us!”
  • A small idea for big change: Coffee and Calendars
  • Why your small town needs Coworking

If you didn’t receive those in your email, you’re not getting the weekly newsletter. You can sign up right here:

I will not ever sell or rent your email address to anyone else, because I wouldn’t like that either.

Podcast

We also have a podcast, that just wrapped up Season 2. Catch up here: A Positive View of Rural Podcast.

Thanks, and welcome! Feel free to comment (or hit reply, if you’re reading by email) and tell me where you’re from. I’d love to learn a little more about your business and your town.

Love your emails, Becky! We moved to our small town (city) two years ago and have found all of your posts very helpful in trying to find ways to help revive our historic, sleepy town. I had a crazy notion to have a 4th of July bike parade for the kids and it’s happening! Some think I’m crazy but there are a lot of people excited and participating. We were granted permission by the City to block off our historic downtown for two hours so the kids could ride up and down main street and we have prizes for the best decorated bikes and costume. A few dollars out of pocket is worth bringing a sometimes divided community together. I’ll let you know how it goes! Keep the email coming!

Thank you, Amber! I love what you are doing for your town! Cheers to the kids and the grown-ups for the Fourth!
