The Brag Basket is no fool

By Small Biz Survival

I think it’s foolish not to brag in the basket: you hide your good news and accomplishments that might inspire others. So get in there! The basket is always free and open all weekend, from April 1-3, 2011.

Half Off
An April Fool Brag Basket
This week’s basket photo by Miss Tessmacher.

Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. It’s here so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend.

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

I just lost my comment, bragging on you. : (

That’s like a terrible April Fools joke, Chris! Sorry you lost your brag. :(

We can’t just leave it like that, so I’ll brag.

Sheila Scarborough and I have been creating some great things at Tourism Currents. We have built so much value there over the past two years that it amazes me! We just had a brainstorming session this week to come up with our next new products, and we are also stepping up our game on the back-end technical side, too. I know we’ll get lots of new ideas and inspiration at SOBCon next month. Watch out, because we are going great places together!

Carrisa Stone and I launched our new baby, Partially Motivated, today, and we’re very excited to be offering helpful financial and time saving tips to our middle class friends who want to make the most out of life in the middle. Hoping for the best!

Sunday morning I heard that my nephew’s co-worker, Jason, had a good friend who died in Afghanistan. Due to Jason’s transient life, (he slings merch for a band) and the uncertainty of when the Army would get the body back for a funeral, and Jason’s commitment to his job, the cost of a plain ticket to get home to Green Bay for the funeral.

I responded by creating a listing for one of my products as a fundraiser for Jason and tweeted about it, and told my nephew to spread the word. By Wednesday we raised over $600 to help Jason get home to say farewell to his friend, an American hero.

Most of the purchases were from teenage girls, of course. But I feel good about helping Jason, and about helping teenage girls be a part of helping someone else.

Now I’m off to finish getting that product out!

I’ve been in the process of a life change/job change. My wife and I have taken 2-3 years to reach the point where I was ready to jump out of my current job to a new direction.

Just after the decision, I got a request for a job interview. Not sure if I’ve gotten the job yet, but contracting looks to be viable if that doesn’t come through.

I don’t regret the time it took me to reach the point of change, but I would still say: don’t be afraid, everyone!

And I would also like to say a huge thanks to friends like Becky & others who have encouraged me in this journey.

I’m a long-time reader but have never contributed to the Brag Basket. This week I want to brag about a friend! Tammy Brodbeck, the owner of Milk and Cookeez, makes the most fabulous and adorable kid-friendly soaps you’ve ever seen. This week she was selected as Martha Stewart Doer of the Week at Dreamers Into Doers! I think it’s fantastic when someone is recognized for their hard work and creativity. Thank you for giving us a place to share these stories!

Kelly, congratulations to you and Carissa! Here’s to many satisfied and newly-prosperous customers for you.

Jill, that’s not crazy talk. ;) That’s just inspiring. Good for you, and good for those young women who participated in helping someone else. Happy shipping!

Paul, cheers to you! So glad to see you making strong moves for your future. Whether or not this particular job pans out, you are and have changed. Congratulations!

Emily, welcome to the Brag Basket! Big cheers to Tammy for her big recognition! No foolin!

Well now, since Chris Brogan didn’t get his brag in, I have changed my brag in the process of getting to this little box while pausing on the way to read the others -> I’m gonna brag that my work on the internet (confined to twitter, blogger, and e-mail) has garnered me many true, sincere, kind, and generous friends, among whom I am proud to list Becky McCray (now, just to be clear, that is not a “plug” or an “advertisement” for y’all Becky – so please let this go through!
