Stretch yourself in the Brag Basket

By Small Biz Survival

Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. I started this so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend.

The basket is open all weekend, from September 3 – 6, 2010.

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

I finally grew up enough to figure out how to hire a second in command and how to start spreading out my tasks and duties to a company instead of keeping them all to my vest. I now have a COO and a project manager, and we have a team of designers, developers, and more.

Having been an employee of several large companies, I guess I always thought that small companies were supposed to be a bit more chaotic, or something. I don’t know what my problem was, but I’m happy to report that it’s a was. : )

Chris, that’s one of your strengths: you keep learning and growing. Congratulations on the new team!

Becky – I love this idea. I also relate to Chris! This week, I got a boost of confidence I needed when a client from my past life really sought me out for a new project. And JUST when I thought people had forgotten…this means a lot of work, but I’m so excited. I’m stretching myself by looking for places to get help to make it all work. Thanks for letting me share!

My stretching in September will be the realization that I have to do three things pretty much simultaneously (meaning, a little bit of each every day), which is how I find myself working anyway:
[1] find a job, for some continued cash flow
[2] keep the momentum going on my Dutch colonial history site (a Google Doc of my plan, of which I’d love input, especially the very sparse line about tourism: http://bit.ly/9zw8XT )
[3] an idea for an easily constructed product, which, if it’s a hit, may eliminate or postpone the need for [1], and about which, honestly, I’m more excited than [1], having about done that to death.
The brag is, one of these three shots is bound to hit the target!

I’d like to brag on my wonderful Darrell for setting up and launching his new site Computer with Ease – http://computerswithease.com/. I wish him every success!

Jeannie, congratulations! A lot of work is a good thing! Glad to hear you have a team to work with, too.

Rick, here’s hoping for all of the above!

Glenda, I think Darrell rocks. Cheers to his new venture!

Love it Becky, I just wrote about this week as something I wished I had known as a younger me http://bit.ly/9CeQqN
It’s okay to be a winner and to brag:)

I will brag that I have finally got my book Emergings published on Amazon after 20 plus years. Now I need to grow up as Chris has done and share.

    Thanks for asking

I probably have talked about my little hometown a little too much, but I’m so proud, I’m going to brag again about Soldier, Iowa and the Loess Hills of western Iowa. Tourism, I know, is one of your entrepreneurial passions. Labor Day weekend is a huge tourism weekend for Soldier, and the surrounding small towns, as they welcome the annual poker run which draws large crowds, big name entertainment, and a great time had by all for the unofficial end of summer. We showcase our town and our region, and have a great time doing it. I just left, and the party was still going strong. Congrats Soldier, you’ve pulled off another success.

Suzie, you’re absolutely right: it’s ok to have good things happen and share them with others. Congratulations on the book!

Shannon, you can never brag too much about your town! Congratulations to Soldier and the whole area on a terrific event.

I am finally finding the means to convert the bakery my wife and I started from a job to a business. Despite owning several businesses in the past, I still made the mistake of thinking the new venture was just a job. We need to make it a business, if we hope to survive. Thanks for the inspiration on your site.

Kurt, sounds like you’re headed in the right direction. Congrats!
