Come share in the Basket

By Small Biz Survival

Every week, I open a new Basket. I call it the Brag Basket, but it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. I started this so you can introduce yourself or share some good news about yourself or a friend.

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

This particular basket is open from Jan 29-31, 2010.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post. You tell something great about your week, or you give plaudits to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate a terrific failure. It’s not an ad; it’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other!

    Well sure I’ll go first!

Grant Griffiths and I are planning a Small Business Social Media Summit in Hutchinson Ks June 4-6. We got our first official sponsor yesterday – the CVB for Hutchinson!

Things are just moving along swimmingly – and we look forward to seeing everyone at the summit. (and yes, Becky is one of the speakers)

Yay, Deb! You and Grant are making something terrific, and I’m very happy for you. Congratulations!

Bragging that we got an energy audit on our home. It looks like we’ll be forking over some bucks to get more insulation in our attic. Who knows how many years it will take for that to pay back – but at least we will be getting the expense back in small bits each month (during the winter).

Yay, Paul! As a bonus, you get to be more comfortable, too. :)

This week we wrapped up our application period for our fourth annual Top Small Company Workplaces award (our first year with media partner Inc. Magazine), and a record-setting 497 small organizations — for-profit and not-for-profit — from all of North America completed an application. We received 51% more completed applications than in 2009, which we’re incredibly proud of considering the state of the economy, which means less time for people applying to spend away from their core duties.

So go our team of only 5 full-timers, but more importantly, go our incredibly gracious marketing partners — some of which are past winners of this award — and all the small firms that helped spread the word!

(A list of the contest winners including trends in their business results and workplace best practices will appear in the June 2010 issue of Inc.)

This has been a great week at TrueBlue Advertising. We’re a two-man agency located in rural South Carolina. We have been extremely busy with a number of projects, and we have been cranking out the work. We are also working on a major new product that we believe we can market throughout the Carolinas. More about that as the launch date approaches.

A double brag – I increased my clients by two thirds this week – we’re small but growing!

And my pal Sally bravely ventured out on her first long car journey with her new daughter and I was the lucky recipient of a visit – go Sal! She makes motherhood look a breeze!

Congrats to you and the team, Mark. Winning Workplaces is cool not just for honoring great businesses, but also for sharing their secrets. Thank you for all you do.

Hurray, David! Extremely busy is a great way to be! Come back and give us the updates when you launch.

Alix, double brags are great. Wow! Two-thirds increase! Congratulations. And a round of applause for Sally!

We are psyched to have the launch of our website for the 2009 tax season behind us. Now our doors are open for business. We’re ready for everyone who want to file a tax extension online!

I’m excited to finally commit to starting my own business! The steps ahead are many, but this is the farthest I’ve ever gone and I’m not going to quit until I see it through. I’ve never been happier!
