End of the Month Brag Basket

By Small Biz Survival

It’s Friday, and that means the Brag Basket is open for the weekend. (August 28-30, 2009 – I’m putting dates because sometimes a person will comment on an old basket by mistake.)

Hey, it’s the end of the month! Any special end-of-month brags??

This is where you can share your projects and accomplishments. You can also cheer for other people, give shout outs, congratulate, and even give someone a well-deserved pat on the back. Lately, lots of folks have bragged on their small town.

The Brag Basket is open for everyone, whether from a small town, a big city, or anywhere in the world. (But it’s true that I love small town brags!)

Will you put something in the Brag Basket this week? You can brag on a friend, your own project, yourself, others, anything! Make it personal, and not just an ad. You don’t need special permission, and you don’t have to be from a small town. Just leave a comment right here. There’s no deadline, so you can brag anytime during the weekend, and I’ll open a fresh Brag Basket each Friday.

    I would like to acknowledge the BYU animation department. Pixar studios recruits heavily from this Utah school. They are a bunch of dedicated, talented and helpful kids (don’t tell them I called them kids).
    They stepped in to build the AlbinoPhant how-to video series for us, at the last minute.
    We had to change directions quickly and they have been working long hours to meet our launch deadline in September.
    Thanks especially to Spencer, Aaron and Lizzy!

    The future of creativity is in great hands…

    PartyGuy (I just love making up a new nickname for you each week), it must be terrific to get to work with those students. A round of applause to Lizzy, Aaron, and Spencer!

    Getting more clients every day. Was a little slow there for awhile. Also started using FreshBooks for invoicing. If you use any other invoicing solution you should take a look at FB. Very fast and clean, and I love the fact that I can log my hours on the iPhone. Since it is web-based sometimes I am billing clients now before I ever leave the site. It makes my life a whole lot easier.

    Trust Agents came out. Our daughter started college. Jim’s Auto Repair (Grabill, IN) has fixed three of our cars well.

    I would like to place the entire Twitterville book launch party into this week’s brag basket. Last Sunday, I attended Shel Israel’s Twitterville book launch party (#tbash)in San Carlos, CA and the entire gang associated with Twitterville were very generous and hospitable. I met so many incredible people who I can now call “friend”. I was a bit nervous going to a “bigwig” party, but everyone was ready to have fun and help Shel promote his baby, “Twitterville”. (disclosure: United Linen is mentioned in the book)

    Specifically I would like to brag on my new friends:
    @shelisrael
    @anetah
    @arie_ball
    @matt_perez
    @jesseluna
    @glfceo
    @frankswaa
    @ericaogrady
    @kanter
    @jowyang
    @lionelatdell
    @richard@dell
    @benparr
    @walterakana
    @kdpaine
    Valerie Kameya
    Alex Alshvang

    This is my first contribution to your Brag Basket and i look forward to adding more.

    I’d like to brag on my son’s school, Sierra Waldorf School, in Jamestown, CA. Summer vacation ends next week (yes, they go all the way through August) and the campus is undergoing its yearly transformation after the 3 month break.

    In the last year the school has been embracing technology in ways that it never has before. I am on a newly formed Online Communications Committee and we have instituted Google Apps, Education Edition, using the sierrawaldorf.com domain. Every class and all committees now have a mailing list and we have set up Google Sites to further distribute information.

    Note that all of these efforts are directed at the adult school community, as Waldorf education strongly discourages media consumption (including computers) by the kids. In our house, we bend the rules on computer use but I’m very glad that we turned off the TV for our son 5 years ago.

    Happy end of summer.

    Patrick, Hooray for new clients! And thanks for sharing your experience with FreshBooks. They are good folks, and have a good service.

    Jon, howdy! I looked you up in the index of Trust Agents. You’re famous. :) Cheers to you, my friend.

    Scott, those are good folks! I’m not surprised at all that they were generous and hospitable. Big Congrats on being mentioned in Twitterville! Welcome to the Brag Basket, and we hope to see you here again soon.

    Greg, wow! I applaud that level of communication and involvement. Great to see a school doing excellent work, and parents deeply involved, as well. Congrats!

    Becky,
    Got two new clients this week – and one of them is Karen Putz. What a joyful week I’ve had conversing with her!

    Ham Jam is tomorrow night and we are going to blues it up (http://www.hamjam.net) — any small town can do this event!

    Got a contract w/a nursing home to make an animoto video. My many thanks to you for showing me how to use my camera.

    I’m doing the program for our Historical Society Annual Meeting – and it’s coming together well. We also have attracted lots of state wide attention for our work on the Stone House – and I’m being interviewed by the papers and radio stations!

    Busy week in Iowa — how’s by you?

    Deb, you are the woman! Just look at you go!! You put your learning into action so well. Good for you!

    Of course, you know what I’m up to. Proud to be featured in BusinessWeek’s Entrepreneur Twitter list this week. Excited about all the development Sheila and I are putting in to TourismCurrents.com. It is going to rock.

    I am really proud of the few and the proud in my boyhood home of Soldier, Iowa, for planning and executing their first ever farmers’ market. The vendor list was impressive for such a small town and for the first time. The crowds, too, were steady and I think many of the vendors did well. Nice going Soldier!

    A second big brag: My new company, Amaizing Energy (misspelling is intentional – we are an ethanol plant) had an open house with guided tours on Wednesday evening, the first since it opened four years ago. The plant looked immaculate, the event drew around 300 people despite a torrential monsoon, and we have heard nothing but positive comments. Congratulations, and thanks, to everyone who worked so hard to pull this off.

    Shannon, two great brags. Congrats to the whole crew at Soldier, Iowa, for your great farmers’ market! And another round of congrats to the crew at Amaizing Energy on a successful open house!

    I wanted to let everyone know that after Becky placed my e-book, “Writing Tips for Small Business Owners,” on this website, I went on to create a “free” monthly online newsletter. It is filled with more writing and marketing tips for small business owners and freelance writers. Visit my website to subscribe. I will be more than happy to email the latest issue.

    My late addition to the brag basket…

    Just broke 2,000 followers on Twitter, due in part to live tweeting the social good conference on Friday. (funny tho I was live tweeting from watching the webcast, not from actually being there!) 2nd time I’ve live tweeted – thanks to Becky encouraging me to keep Tweeting from Civil Rights Museum 2wks back. :)

    Denise – thanks for sharing about your book. I’ll check that out. Many small biz folks need writing tips!

    Sandra, congratulations! I’m honored to be one of your followers. Live tweeting is a terrific way of letting us connect to your experiences. That Civil Rights Museum was a great example.
