Good People Brag

By Small Biz Survival

brag basketEach Friday, I open the brag basket as a fun place to brag or promote yourself and your projects.

Last week, Kim bragged on the awesome PhillyMac. Anna was proud to be returning to school, and Angela bragged on Mike Sansone and the Support a Local Teacher project. What will you put in the Brag Basket this week? Maybe Gary V’s Good People Day GPD08?

You can brag on a friend, your own project, yourself, others, anything! You don’t need special permission or anything. Just leave a comment right here. There’s no deadline, so you can brag anytime during the week, and I’ll open a fresh Brag Basket each Friday.

Lots to brag on this week!

Many more wonderful people have subscribed to our site, up from 400 to over 600 since our mention on Lifehacker. Thank you all for spending time with our work! We are very glad to serve you.

We’ve made a tentative deal with a sponsor for our first print booklet, 20 Small Business Ideas for Small Towns. Watch for the debut next week!

Finally, today is Maesz’s birthday. Happy birthday, Mom, and thank you for all you have done for me!

Hi y’a Becky! I want to brag on @AnnOhio. She is the nicest person I’ve never actually met in person…lol. It never fails that when I’m having a down day, and haven’t told anyone that I am, I get an ecard from her with some sillyness on it. She’s very appreciated.

I’d like to brag on Ed Illig (@Illig on twitter) of Brainstorm Brand

When our company sent a shout out across the social networks looking for a design team, he not only gave us a free consultation but offered to help us re-brand!

As a small business that is a big deal, as a charitable entity – well, that is just humbling.

Ed and his team believed so much in our mission that they offered to help us at no charge. We certainly think that Ed and his team are something to wonderful brag about.

Becky, I LOVE that you do the brag basket. I see it every week and think “RAWK! More of us need to brag on ourselves.” But this week, I’m jumping right in.

SAP hired me and a bunch of my heroes to write, share and discuss ideas as part of their experimental Marketing Community Kickoff Meeting. When I got the first email about this I literally GASPED. Seth Godin? Ze Frank? Ross? Zoli? Armano? Dennis? Jeff? and, ME? I am super excited to participate and super grateful to Twitter friend @stevemann for giving me this opportunity.

But that ain’t all. I’ve been living in panic since before SXSW waiting for clients to sign their deals. Well, tonight Newsgator signed their consulting contract which means that 3 of 3 that were up in the air at the start of March have all landed. This means so much. I can’t even begin to express.

My (soon-to-be-ex)husband got a new job and found a great apartment.

I fell down some steps with my daughters in my arms but nobody was hurt and our pediatricians examined them to protect us from our overzealous state. (Long story).

My car was burglarized for the 2nd time in 3 months, but nothing irreplaceable was taken and insurance will fully cover the stolen wheels, which are currently being replaced.

Three more of my heroes have reached out to me in the last 24 hours with really neat mentoring, ideas and opportunities. Two great women I know have referred me for speaking gigs.

So I am sitting here SO happy, SO relieved, and grateful as hell. So yeah, this week, I’m BRAGGIN. Thank you for the platform.

I’m bragging on my boy Adam Darowski (aka adarowski). His latest blog post got mad traffic and mad comments: He’s a great guy and co-worker and I’m bragging on his behalf!

LizaJne, great choice! Ann is a sweetheart, and highly silly to boot. A terrific combination.

Dangyr, I should brag on you! You are such a great connector of people, and so good at bragging on others all the time!
And, a round of applause to Ed and Brainstorm Brand.

Laura, if more people bragged like you, we’d need a bigger basket! So glad to hear those positive career moves, and love how you find a positive light to shine on each thing that happens. Thank you again for being a good friend to me at SXSW.

Wow! I’m falling behind, as new brags come in while I write! Ok, will hit publish and start in on some more!

I want to brag on Chris Brogan and Jeff Pulver. I had an idea that I wanted to run past them so I asked if we could connect and literally SECONDS later both Chris and Jeff said give me a call. They’re both really busy guys and have people trying to bend their ears all the time so I really appreciate their both being so completely open and receptive. Way to go Chris! Way to go Jeff!

I want to brag on my students. I work in a high school, and we’re doing a unit on “bringing your best self”… to hear a room full of 17 year olds stand up and claim as their some serious life skills (e.g. “I am dependable,” “I am flexible,” “I am persistent,”)… more than once I could feel my throat closing up, I was that humbled by their ability to “own” their nascent superpowers.

I am holding their senior year counterparts in my heart as they struggle with college decisions.

I’d also like to brag about Micah (Twitter, Blog). As a newb to the entire Twitterverse, Micah has taken time to say g’day and talk about things .. as busy as he is.

So kudos and brags to @micah.

What a cool idea. Even though it feels a bit weird to brag about myself I will say that I’m happy for finally finding my Twitter calling.

This week I realized that I love watching for what people need or who they want to connect with and helping make it happen.

My twitter bud @greggscott even called me a “Must Follow” today.

I want to brag on @Dayngr – she’s been a real friend found on the Net. I’ve adopted her as a sister.

She’s one of those folks that I took too instantly when we connected online. We have similar interests and have had plenty to talk about. Can’t wait to get involved more directly with her real world projects.

Well done looking forward to sharing and reading more in the future.

  32. Tony Katz says

    April 5, 2008 at 12:24 pm

Ok, here’s my brag. I’m thrilled to know other people who understand the importance of being proud of what you do and the good things that hard work brings.

I never understood why people are embarrassed or, possibly, ashamed when good things happen to them. From getting a new camera (congrats Becky) to having your business hit its stride (congrats Pistachio).

It’s ok to have success, it’s ok to have great things happen in your life and it is ok to talk about those things. Embrace the good things that happen and the work that it took to get the good things to happen. Then, focus on more good things, and make them happen. The vision is only achieved through the action.

Keep up the great work, Becky.

I just have to bring this over from Twitter… The Frozen Pea Fund for breast cancer fundraising has been a grassroots Twitter success. I want to share some big news from the Blogger Social event.

conniereece: @susanreynolds I cried cuz you weren’t here when we received check for $30,000 from ooVoo. But we got pictures!

susanreynolds: @conniereece kerry & I cried too when we saw the tweet . What a wonderful number!!! that can help us do so much for research & awareness
ooVoo has been so great to work with, as have @scottmonty & crayon but did not xpect this size check!
We loved working w/ ooVoo on ooVoo day & we didn’t seek them out so I get no credit. Crayon & ooVoo are setting a gr8 xample
We are so blessed to know such inovative ppl who thought to pair community & sharing/giving

@BeckyMcCray I think You’ll have to write the brag, It’s really a story about the foresight of ooVoo to use promo $ to help others

Congratulations to everyone who has helped with or donated to the Frozen Pea Fund!
