Small Town Rules

Draft cover for Small Town Rules
All business has to play by small town rules now.

  • When every one of your customers can talk to everyone else, it’s like a small town.

  • When it takes multiple jobs to support a family, it's like a small town.

  • When the human voice is valued over corporate mission statements, it's like a small town.

But if you think of small towns as sleepy, slow moving or boring, you might miss out on what small town business owners have learned. Barry Moltz and I don't think of small towns that way.

We know small town businesses range from the mom and pop, to farm entrepreneurs, to high tech startups. We know that they have learned to thrive with limited resources, build community and reach beyond geographic boundaries. We put together some of what we've learned, and the result is a book: Small Town Rules.

Watch for it to hit shelves in April 2012. Available now for pre-order at:

(If you buy using that Amazon affiliate link, a small portion of your purchase supports our contributor Jon Swanson's project 300 Words a Day.) And yes, our publisher Que definitely plans Nook and Kindle versions.
