Eight of my innkeeper friends have banded together to begin a recipe blog at http://www.bedandbreakfastfoodie.com. They are great and inventive cooks to begin with and exhibit a great sense of humor. Where else would you find a group referring to themselves as "eight broads?" They are gearing up for Facebook and Twitter. It's a great collaberation with a big bonus: you can make any recipe for company without needing to practice it first.

In addition to being great cooks, these women have my respect for being astute business people. Our industry is tougher than most travelers would imagine but they have thrived and strived to keep their businesses and lives as fresh as possible.

I have two items this week.

First off, in my little town of Dunlap, Iowa, local entrepreneurs Brad and Lisa Gross have purchased the old IOOF building which had been converted to a department store in the 1980s or earlier. Recently it hasn't been used for anything but storage. They are in the process of renovating it, including a nice restoration of the facade. They will turn it into office space. A great shot in the arm for our Main Street.

Second, the town of my youth, Soldier, Iowa, just finished their 11th annual Labor Day Poker Run and this year's event was the largest so far. A great way to end summer, even if (like me) you're not a biker. And what a great "stimulus package" for the local economy.

Congratulations Becky, on Tourism Currents. Tourism is a major industry here in Tuolumne County and I would love to see them start using social media. I'll spread the word where I can.

This week, we signed a contract to redesign the web site for the Area 12 Agency on Aging, a site that we built originally seven years ago. Looking back, there are so many areas to improve. The new version will include a blog.

On a more esoteric note, a couple of weeks ago we launched Classical Chinese Medicine for Healing, written by a local acupuncturist, Chinese medicine practitioner and teacher. Check it out for a very alternative view of health care reform.
